Now that so many of us are mainly doing work online, do you find that your messaging may be just a little off?
Maybe before you were meeting people in person more and you could use your charming personality to build a relationship. Now that you can’t meet in person and when you do there is a mask between you, do you find it harder to show your personality?
Good news…you can do that in email as long as you are doing it right!
An important part to growing an email list is that your audience needs to know that they can trust you and they need to like you.
They don’t want to only open an email from you when you want something from them. They also don’t want to open an email from you all the time when you are not sharing anything of value.
There is a fine line that you are walking in building that know, like and trust factor but if you do it right you could build relationships that last a lifetime.
You want to start by staying on brand. That doesn’t just mean branding your email template with your logo. It means talking to people the same way you would if you were working with them. It means sticking to your values and conveying them in email. You want to lead them through an experience, not just try to get them to work with you or buy from you.
What that may look like is a compelling lead magnet that is a free offer they can download once they enter their name and email address. Then that is followed by a series of 4-6 emails with more content. You want to always have a call to action as well so maybe your next step is to invite them to sign up for your monthly tips newsletter for example. Then in your newsletter you will have a call to action where maybe you are inviting them to a free webinar. On that webinar you may invite them go a product or program you are promoting. Then once they sign up for that product or program you can lead them to the next step.
It is important to only have one call to action at a time. You don’t want to overwhelm them or give them so many choices they don’t choose anything.
The experience you want them to have is to build up that relationship with you so they are eventually more than happy to buy from you and refer you or your product to friends.
And don’t forget that once they are a client or customer you don’t want to stop adding value. You want to make sure they are well taken care of. Maybe they get a new email series of information when they buy a certain product from you, or maybe you check in monthly with a card or note or small gift if they are a client.
Staying top of mind is important but only if you are doing it in the right way. Remember karma comes back around so put goodwill out there and it will come back to you tenfold.
