A lot of people are used to building relationships in person but with the current “stay home” order in place we have had to find a new way to connect with people through a screen.

Here are 3 ways to build relationships online but still face to face:

1.) Video Calls – Even though you are not face to face across a table, you can still be face to face on a screen.  Having a video call with a client, colleague or family member is a great way to stay connected or build a new relationship.  You can have coffee together and chat about whatever topic you need to.  You can still see each other so you are not missing their facial expressions and you can enjoy each other’s presence just as if you were in the same room together.

I have worked virtually for 15 years and while I have had the joy of meeting some of my clients in person over those years, a majority of my client and team relationships have all been built on video calls and I have to say that those relationships are just as strong as ones I have created in person and sometimes even more so.  Then if we do get to meet in person it is just that much more fun!

2.) Virtual Networking –  This is so much fun.  Especially if you are an introvert;)  Personally I am not much of a networker.  I never was.  I attend a Holistic Chamber of Commerce meeting once a month but that is really it for anything in person.  Then a client of mine started virtual networking so we could all stay in touch during this changed time (she loves in person networking and is amazing at it) and I am really loving the connection.  I like to see all the people that I now know and the new faces too.  It is a great opportunity to expand your network and have fun.  If you want to join us feel free!  You can learn more here.

3.) Virtual Parties – I have not tried this myself yet but I have heard a lot of fun things about these.  People are getting together and having video parties with their family and friends.  Maybe it is drinks with your girlfriends at the end of a long week.  Maybe Sunday dinner with the family.  They are all on video in their homes but you can see what is going on, all talk and laugh like you would in person and it is a great way to stay connected.

I hope this gave you a few ideas on how to stay connected and build relationships while you can’t be out in the world. I love seeing all the amazing ideas people are coming up with and if you have anything you would like to share I would love to hear about it!
