When someone new meets you and wants to learn more about you and your business, one of the first things they do is look up your website.

Does your website clearly tell them how you can help?  Does it cover your expertise, give them a glimpse into your life and show them how easy it is to work with you or buy from you?

If it is not clear, they will click away.  If they have to search for what they are looking for they will also click away.  Your goal is to make it easy for them to find the information they are looking for and easily connect with you to move forward.

Your home page should have a clear message that welcomes them and right away shows what you do.  It should also have an optin box with a free offer they can sign up for so they are being added to your mailing list and have said yes already to wanting to learn more.

Don’t use cute names in your menu bar.  People don’t want to have to click to figure out what is on the page.  They are busy and just want to get the information they need and move on.

Keep your site updated also.  Read through it yourself at least every quarter to make sure it is still on target with what you do and how you want people to understand your business.  If not, take a little time to refresh it.

Blogs are important also as they will provide more information that is curated by topic and it will also increase your new copy on the site and search engines love new content.  Make sure you are using keywords, making it easy to read and understand and putting a call to action in the blog as well.  If you have a previous blog that you could link back to also that is great too.  It leads them to more information that they are already looking for.

You don’t need to invest thousands upon thousands of dollars in your website.  You just need to have one that is clear and concise.  Even if it is only a few pages long.  The most important pages to have would be your home page, about page, and services page.  You could also have a contact page or just put that information on the other pages.

Don’t get overwhelmed, especially if you are just starting out.  Break it down to what you need to do, who you need to reach out to that can help you, and what timeframe you want this completed.
